Marilyn Evans

Marilyn Evans served for many years as the Historical Society’s librarian in our Archival and Genealogy Library. Although mobility challenges have required her to step away from that role, she remains our trusted “go-to” resource whenever we need help locating materials or navigating an issue.

Marilyn moved to Hilliard 13 years ago to be closer to family. She quickly found the community welcoming and has made many good friends here. Marilyn has often said that Hilliard could use a nice restaurant—one you’d take your mother to on Mother’s Day or for a special occasion. “I would also love to see a tea house restaurant,” she adds. “They’re very popular in other cities.”

Marilyn has been involved with the Hilliard Ohio Historical Society for about ten years. Her journey began when she attended a Heritage Day event and visited the Historical Village—she knew immediately she wanted to be part of it. As a retired librarian, she found a natural fit helping in the HOHS archival and genealogy library. She appreciated that the village offers events for all ages, especially school tours, which introduce young children to Hilliard’s history.

Although she has retired from her volunteer library duties, Marilyn still hopes to see more people use the library. She suggested setting up a table at events like Heritage Day, where visitors could ask questions. If volunteers couldn’t answer immediately, they could collect the questions and follow up later—a simple idea that could spark more engagement. “I really enjoyed working in the library,” she says. “I learned so much about Hilliard and met some wonderful people along the way.”

Today, Marilyn stays active at her church and in her community at Stone Oak Retirement Community. She enjoys reading, participating in activities at Stone Oak, and is active in a Book Club that originally met at the archival library but now includes residents from Stone Oak.
