A longtime resident of Hilliard, having moved to the community in 1994, I was drawn here by the small-town charm paired with close proximity to Columbus. Over the past 31 years, I’ve enjoyed watching Hilliard grow and thrive, especially with the steady development of downtown, new restaurants and businesses, and the addition of family-friendly amenities like parks, bike paths, and the soon-to-open The Well. My involvement with the Hilliard Ohio Historical Society (HOHS) began about 10 years ago when Tim Woodruff—like he’s done with so many others—recruited me during a casual walk through the historical village, offering a private tour that sparked my interest. What attracted me to HOHS was its mission to preserve Hilliard’s history, along with the friendly, welcoming volunteers. What I enjoy most is the flexibility the Society offers—volunteers can give as much or as little time as they’re able and choose areas that suit their interests. Personally, I help out when I can, usually behind the scenes. I consider myself a “gopher,” pitching in wherever there’s a need. While I think the HOHS leadership has done an excellent job maintaining high-quality buildings and displays, I’d love to see more young people get involved to ensure the mission continues for generations to come.
